This December, CSA will undergo a number of changes. Cargo violations will relocate to the “Vehicle Maintenance” BASIC. The “Cargo” BASIC will be changed to “Hazmat”.
Additionally, the “Fatigue” BASIC will be renamed “Hours of Service.”This is because most of the recorded violations are for “form and manner”.
Thus, the six BASICs will consist of the two vehicle oriented BASIC, “Cargo” and “Hazmat”, plus the four driver BASICS-“Hours of Service”, “Drug & Alcohol”, “Unsafe Driving”, and “Driver Fitness”.
There will also be changes to the points assessments. Speeding violations from 1-5 m.p.h. over the limit will be 0 points for CSA. However, if the officer does not designate the speed, 1 CSA point will be assessed. This change will be retroactive for years. FMCSA will go back and adjust scores.
